Hi guys,

I just recently built a new computer, and need some help :(

After about 1 hour of gaming on bf4, my temps are: http://i.imgur.com/JnLsmJa.jpg
(the temps on the max were the max temps I got from about an hour of gaming on bf4 and it was at idle when I screenshoted)

However, under prime95 stress test, my cpu temps spike up within a minute.. I had to stop the test due to sky rocketed temps: http://i.imgur.com/OhRkNh0.jpg

I have not even touched any of the setting in my bios, yet on the cpu-z, it seems like the cpu goes to 4.1ghz.. I have no idea why

My specs are:

Now, it seems like the bf4 temps are fine.. but prime95 temps are just unbelievable considering I have not overclocked nor touched any of the setting in bios. And it was within a minute these 80s-90's temps were showing..

I was planning to overclock the cpu to around 4.2-4.3 but I guess I don't have any chance now? Could it be that i just get a really bad chip? Any kind of help/comments will be greatly appreciated!!

Yes, somehow the CPU has been oced, maybe you use the utility software like AI suite 3. From some of reviews, if the voltage is 1.26V you can oc the cpu to 4.5/4.6ghz. Keep in mind the cpu voltage is high then the cpu temp will go up high too.
You can go to the BIOS manually set the either voltage or cpu frequency, or go to AI suite3 if you did install it to reset the cpu frequency. Until you buy the better cooler then try oc the i7 again.

Thanks for the comment, but I did get an aftermarket cooler. The one I have is Zalman CNPS9700 LED Ball Bearing CPU Cooler
It was also under the pcpartpicker link I posted :]

Hmm.. I thought the Zalman CNPS9700 was a pretty good cpu cooler in terms of performance and it has a phenomenal review on newegg. It has been around the market for good 5 years I believe..

If you look at my second link, the cpu-z portion says "Core Speed 4103.38 MHz and 41.0 Multiplier" Does that mean it overclcocked by itself?? It looks like the voltage was 1.262V during that time. Keep in mind that I have never touched any of the setting under bios.

Could it be this that's causing such high temps under the stress? Also, why does it overclock by itself with auto voltage? Is there something that I should do in bios? if so, what should I do?

Thanks for the input guys :] greatly appreciated!

Haha yeah it was indeed the AI suite3 that was doing this. I never knew about this program and that it was installed until today. I'll look more into this program and research how to effectively use this program. Any tips on using AI suite 3?

Turn it down unless you are willing to buy a better cooler, and consider lowering your voltages. Your voltages have far more impact on your temps than your actual clock speed. AI Suite seems to be pretty ignorant of your temps for you to be getting those value so consider setting it to power saving for the time being or risk a burnout.
