Hey everyone, I starting trying to overclock my Phenom II x4 and got some pretty good results... I'm not sure if this is normal but, I was able to get 4ghz just by changing the multiplier, I haven't touched the voltage, it's stock but I was able to get another .6ghz is that normal? I've had Prime 95 stress testing for two sessions, both about 1hr 30min with no problems, the second session is still going, the top temp. was 56 degrees celcius. Also if it's successful I was thinking of trying to reduce the voltage a little bit to lower my temps, if its stable could I do this? Or would it not be good for the processor?

Solution
lower wattage will never damage the cpu. higher yes, lower never.

you are able to get to 4ghz because you didn't lower the voltage. lowering voltages will decrease the max clock it can run stable. same way as increasing the voltage will increase slightly the highest clock it will run stable.

so you're at a choice really, either you run it at 4ghz and keep the standard voltage, 56C is well within limits, or keep the multiplier at 3.4 (or hell even go for 3.0 it's not a big difference) and then you can decrease the voltage to somewhere around 1.1-1.2 should get you 10-20C below now. (i run my 955 undervolted since i got it)

I think I'll go 4ghz and see if I can maybe drop the voltage a tad bit, I really need the extra power in BF4, It might just be a better server but I was getting 80FPS where before I was getting 50 my CPU is my bottleneck. EDIT: I was able to reach 4ghz, and lower the core voltage down .05 to 1.35, ran Prime 95 overnight with no problems
