Hello,

I own an old 8800GT graphics card (512 MB). Known as the hot G92 chip.

I am not a gamer and I just updated my graphics drivers to the newest version, because I had to support OpenGL 3.x for programming purposes. (I had an old 2007 driver)
However, I noticed that my graphics card temperature went from 67C to 73C. (And the fan speed is already at 50%!)

Now I cleaned my computer 2 weeks ago.
Is there a special function in the driver that enabled something that caused this temperature bump? Is this normal? Should I be worried at all?

Thank you!

its just a 5 degree bump, might be due to some usage increase....just make sure you keep an eye on the temps.

nothing to be alarmed about.

then you got a problem there....watch fan activity and clean the heat sick thoroughly off any dust.

you might need to bump up your fan speeds a little

Thanks for your comment. I already had my fan speed at 50%.
I ended up going back to the old 2007 driver.
I will try to install a 2012 driver which should support OpenGL3.x as well. See if that goes better.
I assume the driver made the card work harder for no reason :o
