I'm slowly overclocking my CPU, and I just started. I pushed it up to 4 Ghz with no changes elsewhere in my bios (besides setting my memory to stock and turning off power management). It's currently running at around 32 degrees idle.

I bought a 212 Evo cooler, so I'm not using the stock CPU cooler. However, when I run a LinX test, my cores go up to around 90-100 degrees celcius. I feel like this is way to high for a non stock cooler, so I'm here for some advice. Is my CPU seated improperly? Should it be this high? I'm planning to try to push my CPU up to 4.4 Ghz if I can, but if it's already doing poorly at 4, I'm not sure if I should try something else. Thanks!

Unless you have no problem in shortening the lifespan of it, some times in as little as a year, yeah, it'd be wise to leave it at 4ghz. 400mhz won't buy you that much performance anyway, if you're just about the thrill of OC, make sure you are using the right thermal paste, and double check the cooler is making proper contact with the CPU.

There is always the chance you got a lemon and it simply won't hit the speed you want.

Goodluck.

PS.
I misread your OP and thought it was hitting a 100 degrees @ 4.4. There is obviously something in there that is not...

Wait, but this is a completely new chip? Are you saying I should leave it to potentially avoid this problem?

That's insane, before I say something is wrong with the software, did you happen to touch the CPU pins or mobo socket?

Did you clean the cpu from old TIM? Is the cooler attached correctly? Your PC probably wouldn't boot if your CPU was at 100°C it would be boiling hot.

You could always drop water on it to test it :)

No it's at 100 degrees C when I run LinX. At boot or idle it's currently running at 35 degrees.

I misread your OP and thought it was hitting a 100 degrees @ 4.4. There is obviously something in there that is not working right, apart from what I already said, check also fans and airflow. I could almost swear the cooler is not making full contact with the CPU and/or the thermal grease is not properly applied.

Regards.
