I built a computer in May of 2012 and purchased a Gigabye z77x-UD3H as the motherboard and an evga nvidia 670 gtx as the GPU (PC Power and Cooling 760 Watt Silencer as the PSU).

Recently, I ordered an evga nvidia 770 GTX SC and tried installing it in my computer.

It had an 8 pin and a 6 pin power adapter required and my 670 GTX had two six pins - one with a two pronged adapter to turn it into an 8-pin (two little white teeth connected by a wire to one of the original six pin power adapters - I'm assuming that's what it was for).

I plugged the 770 into the mobo and turned it on. My bios screen loads (Says gigabyte z77x-UD3H) with different 'f' key/a delete key options for booting in safe mode and a couple of other things. The computer sits on this screen for about twenty/thirty seconds then I go to a black screen with a white underscore in the upper-left hand corner thats blinking.

Does anyone have any advice on how to properly install this GPU or do I need a new mobo for it to be compatible? I have an SSD and an external HD and both were plugged in at the time of the boot.

Solution
Make sure you're using the cables that come directly from the PSU. Don't use the adapters--you don't need to. Your PSU has two 6-pin PCIe connectors and two 6+2-pin PCIe connectors, so plug one of each into the graphics card.

ty. Haven't tried it yet ('cause...Christmas) but I'm going to give it a shot as soon as the "festivities" die down. I updated my Bios too so hopefully all of that combined will be enough.
