Hi guys,
I had a phenom x4 9550 2.2ghz with a GTX 460 and I can't play starcraft II HOTS very well with medium/high performace in 1920x1080, so I bought a GTX 660 graphics card and... OMG! I have more or less the same framerates with some minimum changes in configuration display!!!

I can't put Ultra resolution while I am playing 3v3, 4v4... so, as I can't undestand what happend I start to look some forums and read that maybe my CPU are making bottleneck to GPU. Is that possible?

My questions are:
- Would there be a huge bottleneck from my 2.2ghz phenom? and if so, how big?
- Was the GTX 660 a good choice? I saw a comparative vs GTX460 and it seems to be a good upgrade :(
- Which are the options, overclock the CPU or is too old to do that and I will have no diference?
- And, If i have to buy a new CPU, which one you will recomand, i7 or AMD?

Thanks in advance.
Abel

Your aging Phenom quad core and the slowish DDR2 memory is your main problem. The combination is bottlenecking the GTX 660. If fact, it was bottlenecking the GTX 460 too.

Hello,
Thanks for your quick answer and exploiting that you are a CPUs Master, do you think it's worth to make overloking to my Phenom CPU or I wont' take too much?
Thank you!

O/C'ing will always improve the performance of the processor. But in the case of the older Phenom, I'm afraid it won't be enough to do much good. The first run of AMD's Phenom quad cores were not very good gamers by today's standards. The IPC was quite low. Here is a gaming CPU hierarchy chart you can use to compare with: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-o...
As you can see, your Phenom 9550 is down there with the slower Intel dual cores.

If this is your MB: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3A78EM/
...the good news is that it has a 125W AM2+ socket that can accept faster Phenom II processors. See the CPU support list for that board: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3A78EM/#support
You can either try to locate a faster CPU that is on the list, or you may want to consider a total MB/CPU replacement.

Thank you again for your time to answer my questions and for provide all that information. Thanks to that, I have oc my CPU from 2,2Ghz to 2,5 Ghz but, anyway, I am looking for a new "pack" of MoBo, CPU and RAM. I have check all the itiems of my computer and most of them are from 2008!!!! OMG! :p

Thanks again for all! and have a great and happy new Year! :p
