Hey everyone, I just bought a brand spankin new MSI GTX 770 Twin Frozr. Loving it so far.

My question is, The rest of my build was for a GTX 480, so I have a i7 930 @2.8Ghz (4coreHT), with 6 GB triple channel ram running at 1066 mhz.

All of this sits on an ASUS Rampage 3 Gene.

Is my gear still good enough for this Video card or is it all too old and slowing down the performance i could be getting from a newer CPU?

Thanks in advance.

I think to fully support a 770 gtx, you made need to overclock a little more. The push over 3.0 and I think you'll be ok.

It is a bottleneck yes. Its a good time to switch to a much faster i5 like the 4670k

thanks, I will be building a new rig soon, When it's done i will swap my 770 in the new rig with latest i5-i7, and put the 480 back in the old one.

For now, I'll get the clock speed > 3ghz, thanks for the help/

Your Core i7 930 is still strong enough to feed even a R9-290x or GTX780Ti without bottlenecking. You may overclock your CPU to 3.4 or higher to get max out of your CPU.
