Hello, i need help overclocking my i7 4770k on the MSI h87-G43 Gaming Motherboard. When i try to overclock it dosent seem to work. Can someone give me tutorial on what to do to overclock. I want to overclock my cpu to 4.8Ghz or 4.5 And make it stay there. Everything i tried dosent work.

System Specs.
I7 4770k
MSI h87-g43 gaming mobo
(MOBO VERSION 1.2)
Corsair H55
MSI R7770 OC
16gigs GSkill Trident X Ram
625Watt PSU

Solution

chances are intel already had the motherboard vendors push an update to 'fix' that:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Non-Z-OC-BIOS-Microcode-overclocking,23682.html
btw, i can't translate the coolaler thread, so i can't see what they're saying. however, i do not see any bios screenshot (in the first page. the whole thread is in chinese, so i didn't check the rest.) to check which settings to change in order to o.c. the k-cpus.
h87 chipset does not support/allow cpu overclocking. the only o.c. you'll get is through turbo boost, likely 3.9 ghz for single core.

you'll need a z87 chipset to overclock the cpu.

additionally, don't set a goal like stable 4.5-4.8ghz out of a cpu like haswell core i7. each cpu o.c. differently and the highest 24/7 stable clock you're gonna get with your cpu is the one for your cpu.

I have that same motherboard (the ms 7816 version (but h87-g43 by msi))
What Bios did you use to achiever 4.2 on an H87 board???

And what options are in the bios? could you post a screenshot please becuase i have ordered a 4770k just for this very reason

I'm not forking out extra green to intel for a Z87 "SANCTIONED" board when H87 will do it before the bios fix.
And 4770K is same cpu as 4790 same clocks from what i noticed.
If it don't work i have .lost nothing but i figured it's worth giving it a shot if the Chinese guys can do it

Hi sorry for no replies. Bios version b.0 so the lowest version. then in the bios the overclocking features will be unlocked. i used a guide for the overclock which can be found if you google i7 4770k oc guide. i managed my cpu to get up to 4.5ghz stable even maybe 4.8 if i had better cooling. No downsides to this except latest bios features and updates. you cannot update mobo as it will remove oc

I got the bios version the the MSI website, by searching my motherboard version then going into support, then BIOS. http://www.msi.com/support/mb/H87G43_GAMING.html#down-bios
Download then install, after a reboot it should be downgraded to version b0. Then you have the capability to overclock.

MSI do not support over-clocking on z-series boards so be careful with your clocks. I heard that ASUS and some other companies are allowing overclocking on their boards with new bios updates.
