I just built my first ever gaming PC... Not yet fully built though. Couldn't find my GPU anywhere locally, well I did find it but due to holidays the store was closed by the time I made I got there.

Set Up:
Intel Core i5 4670k
MSI Z87-G43 mobo
2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 @ 1.6GHz
2TB WD HDD
DVD/CD Reader/Writer
Windows 8.1 OS

So after going through the whole pain in the neck build and having my computer not turn on initially(forgot one power connection) and then figuring out how to install WIndows 8.1 I have yet another problem!

I cannot receive sound. My mobo is connected via HDMI connection and the speaker icon shows a red x. Whenever i click it or bring up Volume Control I see that non of the peripherals are sending sound(Playback). It says that HDMI is not plugged in. What am I missing? Do I need a sound card to play sound?

Solution
Hi
The way that Windows XX platform is using sound is :
XX input and only 1 Output
You have to go to sound icon in the taskbar -> right click -> Playback Device
There you must see you HDMI TV as output - if you have connected you Mobo HDMI to the TV
Select it
Right click -> Set as default sound and communication device
Done

I assume you have installed all needed drivers an Device manager is looking ok !
