Cant Recognize new HD on Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 motherboard

Hi there,

Christmas eve and having massive issues, still awake at 2am..this is seriously a major brain itch that I can't shake and have been stuck on for 4 hours straight

I got a new WD blue 1TB hd that I'm trying to just get regognized and its not happening.

I currently have windows 7 installed on my main HDD, and have been having trouble even just trying to get this new 1TB HD recognized.

I swear I've followed so many instructions from around the web and none have been working, I just know its something stupid, not a faulty drive...i have a gut feeling its my motherboards fault and has to do with some sata controller issues or something

I've used different sata cables

I've tried gigabtye sata controller drivers

i've tried various sata port combinations

I've changed sata in BIOS from AHCI (or whatever it is) to IDE and such

I've used "computer management" via right clicking on "my computer" to see if the drive will show up to be able to partition it and get it ready for installing windows 7 on it

If you are going to install a new Windows OS on this drive, you do not need to format it ahead of time. The Windows install disk will do it for you!
If you want to use it in a computer as another drive or additional multilple partitions, go to "Disk Manager". All drives will show up here if they are properly connected even if they are not formatted. If your drive shows up in Disk manager, right click on the box for your new HD and choose "Format". Follow the instructions. If you want to partition the drive into smaller pieces, simply choose a smaller amount than the total, perhaps half, then when it is finished, go to the un-formatted portion that is left and repeat the process.

The first thing as I am sure you know is to check in the bios of the motherboard if the drive is detected.
If it does not show up then the cause could be a lack of power to the drive from the Psu.

If the drive is detected in the bios, and its size reported correctly.
A drive that comes from a factory, is in raw format.
And in order for windows to even see it, it must be formatted via the windows setup process.

What mode is the current setup of the system, Sata, Ahci, or Sata raid ?
