Hi there, I have a HP Pavilion with the Specs here :

Hard Drive: Seagate 1 TB

CPU: Amd Phenom 2 X4 830 Processor at 2.8 ghz

Bios: American Megatrends inc 6.09

My original computer was a p6510f but had 8 gigs of ram. A Phenom X4 830 2.8 ghz, a Seagate 1 tb and a mini atx mobo. ( This Computer was stock from the factory )

I am planning to switch the videocard and motherboard out, but I'm wondering if I need to reformat my hard drive. If I need to reformat then I need a new Win 7 disk as the original computer did not come with the installation disk. Could I pull it off like this guy?

Was he lucky? It seems that reformatting a hard drive is not needed.

Thanks

You should reformat. You can download an iso image of whatever version of win7 you need. If I understood you correctly then your drive already has an install of win7 on it so just re use the product key in the new install. Make sure you download the right version and make sure you match 64 bit or 32, whatever is already installed
with windows if you stay with the same or close chipsets you can boot into safe mode some times and remove the older mb drivers in windows system and then reboot and install the newest chipset drivers. the downsize is sometime you get message that windows needs to be rergistered. if that happens most people call microsoft up and tell them they had to replace there mb and microsoft give you a one time new code. with a new motherboard your always better off doing a nuke and pave on the drive and doing a clean install of windows. if your in school or collage microsoft has a edu discount program for there software.
