What is most important in a Graphics Card?

I was looking through the internet and I realized that both the Nvidia GTX660 and the Nvidia GTX680 had a memory of 2GB. This made me wonder that what is most important in a graphics card? Well, it was clearly not the memory as the 680 clearly has better performance than a 660. Then what is it? Also, I'm looking for a graphics card which is about $200-$230 (The 660 would be my choice, but I'm not aware if there are better ones out there so it's always good to ask) and will play current-gen and next-gen games at above High settings with playable fps. Thanks in advance to everyone!

Memory is of secondary importance. Sometimes, even very weak cards are given excessive memory to fool unknowing customers(like a geforce 210 1GB or a 630 2GB). The amount of memory used depends on textures and resolution. The most demanding games use more memory(like BF4 at 1080p uses more memory than Hot Pursuit at 1080p, cause of higher textures).
More important is the number of cores, and number of SMX(similar to processor cores).
Also, important is the memory speed. Older DDR3 cards are slower than the newer DDR5 cards.
If you want a rough comparison, then look at floating point performance. TechPowerUp lists cards' floating point performance.

graphics card(GPU) increases our memory clock speed over the video resolution..
it can visualize games and videos which is in higher resolution that means pixels..
tats it..
may be this will be your better option..

Hello friend,

The most important thing when it comes to a graphic card is its processor chipset. Latest graphic card now days have greater processing power due to its latest chipset technology. As for gtx 660 and 680. Both are game hungers. You can refer to the performance chart for more details http://www.hwcompare.com/13301/geforce-gtx-660-vs-geforce-gtx-680/. As you aware gtx 680 is better but not much difference on both gpu's. Both are equipped with 2gb ddr5 256bit processing power. The only difference may be int the cuda cores. You can visit official geforce website for more information. So now, lets come to your question. Dont worry mate, gtx660 can perform well on huge graphics consuming games. I'm sure that it can play most of the latest games at 1080p. If you want more performance card go for gtx 680. This is the best information that i can provide. :)

There is another consideration. As I already said, manufacturers add huge amounts of memory to weak cards to boost sales. Be sure to check the geforce site to check reference specifications before buying. Even the geforce gtx680 comes with a 4GB variant which is not really needed unless playing at very high resolutions.
