I have an Acer aspire v3 571G. My HDD drive just die so I bought a new one to replace it:

Hitachi Travelstar Z7K500 500 Go 7200 RPM 7 mm

When I tried to install windows it keeps telling me "windows setup could not install windows on this computer's hardware".

I read up on the Microsoft answers here but nothing help.

My bios setting is certainly set to AHCI.

My new HDD is an advanced format drive, and maybe this is causing the problem. If so, how do I fix this?

Please can anyone help? Thanks!

What version of 7 are you installing and how ? (ie. are you using a restore disk that came with the system ) and does it already have SP1 integrated into the media ?

IIRC you will need to use an install package that has SP1, as support for the AF drives did not exist in the original release but was added in SP1 - so if using an older restore disk or install media that does not have SP1 slip streamed into the package the HDD will not be supported.

Uhm I'm not sure, I think I'm using wins7 ultimate, it's an iso I put on my USB quite a time ago. The installation disk came with wins8 which I hate. Anyway, where can I get wins7 with SP1 (short of buying the thing for 500$ of course)?

If not, is there any quick fix to this?

Thanks!

Should be able to download the iso with SP1 from Digital River (MS's authorized digital download source) you would need to know what version you have the key for and select the download that matches the product key (it should be listed on the key that came with the machine) -- though since you say it came with win 8 I'm not sure how the downgrade license works so you might have to find the key that you used for downgrading to win 7 to activate the install (or talk to the MS activation rep once the activation fails using your win8 key and explain you had downgraded to win 7 and hopefully they will provide an activation response code)

The various win 7 isos are listed here ( http://www.nextofwindows.com/download-retail-windows-7-iso-from-official-website/ ) NOTE : BE SURE TO GET THE ONE WITH SP1 that are in the second set of links on that page !!

Hey I fixed it! Turned out you need to download Intel Rapid Storage Tech driver and pre-install it with USB before installing windows! Pheww

Anyway thanks a lot for your help! Merry Christmas!
