Graphics not displaying without 4 pin CPU connector?

I received a new PSU (CX 600), and replaced my old 450W PSU that came with my case. Unfortunately, no graphics displayed after I hooked it all up. I swapped the new one out for the old one, and the only difference I could find between the two PSUs was that the old one had a 4 pin connector for the white CPU connector... thing. I really have no idea what its called, but I do know that it offloads power to the CPU correct? So that it doesn't eat at the main power supply?

Why would this not work? All the fans and lights worked. For some odd reason I couldn't turn the computer off with the power button on the front panel, even though I could actually turn it on. To turn off the computer I had to switch off the main power switch. Any insight?

Old mobos have only 4 pin
New mobos have 4 + 4
Old PSU have only 4 pin
New PSU have 4 + 4

If you mobo have 4 pin and you PSU 4 + 4 the connect only one 4 pin
If you mobo have 4 + 4 and PSU 4 + 4 connect all ........

Hi
The 4 pin PSU connector is for the CPU
If you not conect it the pc will be not functional !

The 6 pin or 6 + 2 or 8 pin PSU connectors are for the GPU
If the GPU have this connector you have to connect all to the PSU
If you don`t the GPU will not work .....

Ah I see, sorry about that. My new PSU seems it doesn't have a dedicated 4 pin only, but I've read that you can use the 8 pin cable with the 4 pin connector. Is this correct or will I have to buy a converter? Sorry, I've never had to change out my PSU.
