Still worth pouring more money into an LGA1366 system?

I know LGA1366 has been out for several years, but I am debating whether it's worth buying parts for it or upgrading to LGA2011 with the X79 chipset. I built my system in 2010, and mainly use it for light gaming and video editting. This is what I have:

- i7 950 (stock speed)
- Asus P6X58D-E
- 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600MHz
- 300GB WD Velicoraptor
- 1TB WD Black Caviar
- 896MB EVGA GTX 260
- Asus Essence STX

Whatever decision I go with, I am still planning to get a SSD, add another 6GB RAM, and upgrade my video card. Would it be worth buying a 990X? I am wondering if I could squeeze another 4-5 years out my system if I upgrade my CPU.

light gaming and video editing............. sound like a viable upgrade. an i7 would speed up the process but your system isn't exactly a dog.

Put a x5650 xeon in there and clock it at 4ghz or a bit over if you have great cooler. Its an great upgrade with 12 threads. As its just a i7 extreme edition branded as xeon. Actually, an extreme edition is a rebranded xeon. It will outperform any qaudcore on the market today. And a whole lot cheaper then a 2011 system. Id wait another few years until 8 cores or 10 cores are the standard on the enthousiast intel platform.
