Im going to build a computer and all that is left is the ram.

Specs for the build:

Corsair cx600w

i5 4670k

asus z87-a

asus r9 280x top

fractal design define r4

seagate barracuda 1tb 64mb cache 7200rpm

cooler master hyper 212 evo

Whats an appropiate ram for this build. I play on playing on 1 1080p screen on games like bf4 on max. should i go for 8gb or 16gb. Should i get 2*4gb cl9 or 1*8gb cl10.

Please post recommendations!
Thank you in advance! :)

I would change the PSU to one made by a quality manufacturer such as Seasonic, XFX, Corsair (except their CX series) or Antec. The Corsair CX series are their low-end PSUs and do not have the best reputation. Just my opinion. Also, if you plan on overclocking you might want to look at something in the 650W range.

As far as RAM, I'd suggest visiting RAM manufacturer websites (such as Corsair.com, G. Skill. com, Crucial.com, etc.) and use their memory configurator program/app. All you do is tell it what motherboard you have and it will tell you all of the various RAM they make that is compatible. I'd recommend 8 GB in a 2 x 4GB kit in order to make use of the dual channel operation rather than a single 8 GB stick. If you can afford it...

If you can afford it, you can get 16 GB, but that would be a bit overkill for current gaming needs. Just buy the highest speed with lowest latency that you can afford.

good, yes i checked and it's compatible :) the gpu and ram is going to be red but the mobo is yellow. i would really love to buy the msi z87 g45 gaming as its red and hot but i heard from tons of people saying the QC is bad. quick question what does QC stand for- quality? As far as i see it the cheapest red asus is the assu extreme hero is 45dollars more expensive.

Quality Control - they aren't to good with that, end up with many mobo that go out DOA (Dead on Arrival) and often have port failures (SATA, Ethernet, USB), bad DRAM sockets, PCI-E sockets, etc - I don't build on them, but of calls I get for computer problems, I get more on MSI mobos than any 2 other manufacturers put together, which is sad as I get lots of computer problem calls

i've (of course) updated my build, 2days agow i were planing on buying a soundcard for 30$ and the asus r9 280x top for 410$ (i live in another country so different prices). but i got the 280x for 290dollars which is extremely cheap in my country and i also removed the soundcard. By that i saved 140$ so i think i'll be able to buy the asus extreme hero, i also heard that it had a good soundcard built in and it's rog so something special with that i guess. Is the asus extreme hero a good buy? The asus z87-a sells for 173dollars and the hero sells for 236$. also do i need any extra fans in the case? if so please send me some links to the fans and tell me where to put them, thanks :)

I did 20 builds before deciding to get the Hero for my own Haswell build, since then almost all by Haswell builds have been Heros, (knock on wood here), not a problem yet with any of them and everybody loves them, same here on the forums, of the better selling mobos at the Egg, it has the most reviews and the highest rating - in short best Z87 I've seen

okay then, i got 1 last question. Which 1tb hdd should i buy, 7200rpm, 64mb cache etx... the caviar blue seems good but its blue :/ and the black sells for 130dollars. wahts your recommendation?

For all intents and purposes the Blue and Black are the same - same RPM, same cache, et al, stay away from red and green those drop to 5400 RPM - but black/blue is basically marketing offering the same basic and trying to appeal to 2 different markets home/business and enthusiast/gamer
