Hello,
i just set up my new system with a 4770k + new MB. Some strange things happened then, the boot device led + the vga led stays on. When i pull out the graphic card (hd 7970) and only use the onboard graphic i actually get into the bios . However the boot (with no led staying) crashes at windows logo, i think that is caused by my old drivers so i may have to reinstall windows. But thats not the main point, as soon as i plug in ANY graphic card the boot device led + the vga led stays.

I managed 3-4 times to boot WITH my HD7970, i cant reproduce it, but it was when i switched the pci slots several times and reconnected the power cables and then it gets really strange, when i change nothing, just restart from UEFI i get the 2 leds again and it only works again if i use onboard graphic. Once i could restart 2 or 3 times with graphic card, but then it fails.

Things i tried out:
Using different graphic cards.
Using different slots.
Using a graphic card, which only takes power from MB.
Using only 1 RAM.
Using no graphic card -> works but its still weird, sometimes the boot led stays
Using no boot device, using only hdd, using only ssd, using both.
Using MB without case.

All in all i think its the old PSU, which is on no z87 supported list. However i tried to disable the new energy features. Using a silent pro 700w. The CPU-Temperature is fine. I dont think its the MB, because the rest seems ok to me.

Any tips on that?

PS: Im really frustrated, spend so much money for not working ****

Solution
A faulty CPU fan installation or CPU dropping can cause the issue. And as the CPU controlls the PCIe slots, a faulty contact would lead to such kind of problems, depending on the location of the bent pins. Same with memory slots not working.

Good to know that. Update: I think i found the issue, in the case i couldnt use the last pci slot, because of the PSU, outside the case i just didnt tested the third slot, but i did now -> everything works like a charme. No leds, no stuck in memOK. Is it possible that 2/3 pci slots are defective? I will just send it back and get a new one then. Or do you think i should try something else?

dont know but i do know that the last 3 asus boards [amd] i used all had lots of little issues kinda like what you are going through trying to get them board leds off and bsod issues. just alot of trial and error.. seems a lot of flakey asus issues here at tom's.. like this asus board i am on now will only work with one stick of ram and the bios at defualt. any thing more issues crash bsod. but as long as the bios is set at defualt and i got one stick of ram [in any of the 4 slots] it runs 24-7 with no issues at all... so go figure. like in baseball 3 strikes and there out.

It might be a CPU socket bent pins issue.
If RMA-ing the board, check the socket after removing the CPU.

Post the motherboard brand n model number so I can provide detail but...
- you have to use the PCI-E slot closest to the CPU for 1st video card as a rule (you usually have some flexibility with 2nd n 3rd GPU slot choice....)

Also, junmonkey is dead-on, you must re-install windows from scratch when you replace your motherboard. (all those low level driver bits for the MB won't be compatible. Your lucky if it even boots up. AMD to Intel or vice versa swaps won't. Intel to Intel will IF they are very similar systems, but, they have some problems..)

NOTE: While your system builder Win 7 license IS suppose to be ONLY for one build I personally have been able to contact Microsoft and get them to swap the license over to my new board. I just told 'em the old motherboard Died, which it didn't and I didn't see why I should have to buy a new copy of the OS for that reason...

If your trying to "re-use" your Dell computer OS license for example, nope, you can't it's keyed to THEIR hardware only.

Wow, you were right. There is one pin totally bent - i think it doesent contact the CPU there.

Hopefully Mindfactory will RMA-ing it.

i see like at newegg reviews on intel boards alot of that ''bent pin'' issues sorry you got in to that but atleast you found an issue maby it can easly be streaghtend out and go to go ... for what i see also its awarrenty void thing.. but with a steady hand you may get it stright and got back up and going, good luck

p.s. is the intel scocket realy that weak?? and so easy to damage?
