Hi Everyone I Want to upgrade me dell optiplex 745 sff processor how many cores processor does it support quad core or dual core my friend is saying that it should only upgrade to 2.40 gHz core 2 duo Processor so is it correct what he is saying i don't know my motherboard name that's the reason i'm posting this and upgrading processor depend on psu or motherboard

SPECS

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 2.99 3.00 GHZ
4GB (3.25GB USable)
GeForce GT 520
300W PSU

It can go up to Q6600 or Q6700, up to QX6700 but cooling must be upgraded.
Also, if you are planning to stick video card like 6670 or 7750 low profile - this will push power supply to the edge, so it is dangerous, but possible if you agree to take the risks.

I look one more time and I see controversy. You said your power supply is 300 watt, but actual Optiplex 745 SFF power supply is 275 watt according to manual, so what you have?

Look at the pictures below and point to yours.

Well Im extremely Jealous. I know at this point its older tech but i've bought a QX6700 and a Q6600 and niether of them work in there. i know there is the chance of Doa's but i've driven myself crazy trying to figure this problem out. and yes i did flash the latest bios from dell.

Ugh

By now I know, only 95 watt version is supported due to power supply. Go to this page and scroll all the way down, the last table will provide part number, stepping and TDP, which is varies from 95 watt to 105 watt.
95 watt is HH80562PH0568M, see what is printed on top of yours?
