i have cable internet in our main house and want to have wired (and wireless) internet in our guest house. I ran about 250 of blue cat 6 riser cable in conduit to the guest house and connected up a new linksys router. but I'm not getting any activity lights. Is the run just too long for the power output of the first router? If so, is there some power or signal booster I can buy to fix this?

Solution
Solid core or stranded? coper core from a trusted suppler or fake copper clad off ebay?

If it's your first time crimping it could take 5 times to get it right.

I have not tried a computer (doh!). Good idea.
i made the ends very carefully using the B standard, but don't have a tester for them so its possible that i messed them up. any free way to test the ends?

my isp said that the 330 feet is a max distance only in theory and that to get 250 feet to work you would have to have perfect cable with no kinks or twists (stress on the lines I suppose). he said there is some kind of booster i can get but didn't elaborate. would splicing in a powered switch in the middle of the run help?

A switch along the way might help. But try just a PC/laptop at the far end first.

Thank you all for your help. alennnn guessed it correctly. It was my first time making cat6 ends. I redid them and now it works perfectly. 12 MS ping time, no packet loss!
