Hey all, just put together the new build for my lil sis and I'm not getting any post or display out of it.

Using on board graphics to try to eliminate one more variable and tried two different displays.

Powers up everything fine, drives are spinning lights and fans are all on, and there is no beep from the speaker I plugged into the board.

I've tried everything in the 'try these things first thread' including unplugging all the drives, reseating the ram and trying one stick only, there is nothing behind the board causing a short. There are a couple things I could think of and wanted some feedback from some experts here.

1. Board is bad- board was bought open box at microcenter but they said it was tested to be working.

2. CPU is bad- it's brand new though it's possible. I started with an aftermarket cooler and I went lighter with the paste than I have in the past (straight bead application technique), but still had a tiny bit come out the sides so I don't think I got enough on there.

3. I'm using ram that isn't technically supported by the board or processor (g skill ripjaws c series 2400 Model F3-2400C11D-8GXM 2x4gb). I thought that the board would be able to downclock it without issue, but I'm wondering if this could cost the system not to post? I bought that ram because we were almost certainly going to go with an apu build before the fx-6300 went on sale for $90.

Let me know what you think the most likely cause is or any other troubleshooting suggestions before I take the board back to microcenter.

Thanks!

Yeah, I knew that was a possibility that the old bios wouldn't support the fx. But it says in the manual the board supports it so I was thinking it would ship being able to run the fx series.

What can I do to update the bios? I only have FX processors around. Is there a way to figure out what bios it was shipped with?
