Just got a GTX 760. I need a new PSU now. Any recommendations?

You can upgrade to whatever CPU you want that fits in your board, the PSU will be more than enough I figure with that graphics card and current arrangement you can't be pulling more than 370 watts

thanks! pretty new to all of this. I was wondering cus the card said it requires at least a 500w psu. So you're saying after a new cpu, that card, and possibly a mobo i should be around 380 watts?

thanks fro the info

He is limited to the AM3 socket as far as i can tell so just needs to check all cpu choices for that setting

You will not be able to change motherboards without also buying a new copy of Windows

If HP have similar pc's with higher spec phenoms there is every chance one of those will drop into your system .
But they are hard to find now . They have been out of production for over a year .

Upgrading graphics and psu seems sensible

Your motherboard is NOT compatible with FX processors

On the page above is a link to compatible processors
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02560084&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en#N125

Phenom X4's and X6's
But the fly in the ointment is the 95 watt limit . Some phenom X4's are 140 watt and most are rated 125 watt .
You may be OK using one of those , but your mb is a fairly budget model and it might not last .

IMO dont worry about a cpu upgrade for this computer

alright so If I upgrade the psu to the corsair or xfx, and can fit the 760 in it, I will see how that works for now. is it possible to buy a new motherboard at a later time to open up more cpu options?

At a later time you could change mb/cpu/RAM
You would also need to get a new copy of Windows because the one you have is locked to the current motherboard .

Of those 3 power supplies I would use the CX 600M
The M is for modular that means some of the cables can be unplugged from the power supply so you do not have a lot of unused cables inside your case . That its $10 less than the XFX seals the deal IMO

MURK JAGGER,

I would go with one of the following:

1. Silverstone Strider SST-ST50F-P 500w modular power supply ($75) (150x86x140)

2. Silverstone Strider SST-ST60F-P 600w modular power supply ($106) (150x86x140)

3. Silverstone ST55F-G 550w modular power supply ($110) (150x86x140)

Personally, I went with the ST55 for a couple of reasons:
#1. It is Gold certfied so you know that the 550w rating it has means that you are pretty much getting very close to if not all 550w available to your system. Unless you're powing some crazy GPU setup, this will power your system just fine.
#2. Its a compact PSU (140mm long) so that means that you can use it in any size ATX case BUT if you decided to go with a smaller case like I did with the Node 304 mini ITX, it will easily fit in there and save you valuable space for your cables and other components.
#3. Its modular AND you can buy the optional PP05 short cable set IF you want cables that are much shorter than stock cables which, again can help to reduce clutter in various cases. PSU is currently going for $95 on NEWEGG after $15 rebate. If you want more power, Silverstone has other models available as well.
