Ello All-

I was recently asking about R9 290 vs 780 watercooled, but because of unforseen circumstances I have to go Air.

So, for my Winter upgrade to my computer and it is time for a GPU upgrade. My poor 660 can't handle much of what is here and will be coming. Unfortunately I am buying during the Coin-induced price hike and this is my only time to buy. Right now the Gigabyte Windforce R9-290 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...) and the EVGA 780 Classified (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...) are the same price. Which is more "future proof" (though I despise the term)? Or is there a 780 that will be better than the revered Classy?

Gaming @ 1080 with possible upgrade to higher res later this year.
Purchase through Newegg
i5 3570k and Z77A-G45 MoBo
8 Gigs of Ram
Corsair TX750M PSU

At 2560x1440, an R9 280 or 770 would give 60+, but if you want a card that is that high-end, go for the 290, it is faster (http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1068?vs=1036).
