Hi, so I'm building my second PC (actually my girlfriends Christmas present) and I just can't get the thing to post! I've swapped out the processor, checked for bent pins, booted without RAM, and booted without GPU. Every time it's on for about 5-8 seconds then shuts of for about 5 seconds then repeats. Also, the second i flip the power switch on the psu it starts up without me pressing any power button or anything. Please help me i'm new to this and my GF is really looking forward to playing on her pc)......I'm thinking her mobo is screwed. What do you guys think??

Just checking.. does her MB have an onboard speaker to hear the beeps from? Or is it just a connector and you supply the device (they are inexpensive)? Did the CPU fan even come on?. I know I'm stating the ultra-obvious but the CPU is on the approved list for the MB?

If the required MB power connectors were plugged in, the CPU fan plugged in yet not spinning, your test PSU fan was working then I would suspect the new MB. You reduced the variables to MB and PSU. You used a known good PSU with the new MB and still no beeps. Can't think of anything else to try.

I've already looked at that and the only thing I haven't tried was resetting the CMOS. No luck. The starting up as soon as it recieves power baffles me though. Any other ideas?

Only other suggestion I have is pull it apart and start over. IF the MB has a built in GPU then use it and eliminate the PCI GPU from the troubleshooting loop for now. Try with only 1 stick of ram in the slot recommended in the MB manual. Put everything in the BIOS to default speed settings. You do have a high enough rated PSU of top tier quality I presume.

OK, so I tore my working rig apart and dis assembled hers. I was thinking maybe it was her PSU So I unplugged everything and hooked my PSU into her mobo with nothing in besides the CPU and it did pretty much the same thing. So that screams bad mobo right? If it were fine it would've stayed on and I would've heard continuous beeps indicating there was no RAM right? Just wanted to make sure before I go and buy a new mobo tomorrow morning
