Hello.

I need help with my new gtx 650.

I got it for christmas, and installed it on my computer along with a new power supply to support it (i'm sure it works). The thing is, when i install the driver from the installation CD (v314.07), My computer begins to have problems. What happens is, after I restart my computer and it boots back up, it comes up and says windows is loading and then after it loads, the screen flashes black and won't turn on after that. It turned on in safe mode. So I uninstalled the graphics driver. and it works now. Any advice?

P.S. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it may be that I need the latest driver (v331.82). I am downloading it right now (on slow internet) so I figured I would ask while i'm waiting!

if it works fine in safe mode then it points to a driver issue

you need to insure you do a clean driver install

remove all the cards drivers and software [like msi afterburner, or some kinda add on programs] to were when you reboot all the card has to run on is the defult windows display driver [windows defult display driver wount do any heavy stuff] and check if things seem to be in order. if so go to device manager-display- right click your card - propertys - driver should be provider microsoft. if so go back to desktop and install the driver[ i prefer to download the driver to a file on the desktop and install from there ... the driver disk driver can be buggy and not install right... when driver is installed check finish to reboot back to desktop

Actually, I have a clean install of vista, I did a clean install of the drivers, and the same thing occurred. So I uninstalled them again. And i began downloading the LATEST driver (as I stated in my post).

well vista theres an issue how long ago did you install vista?? [ i am useing vista so dont get me wrong] if you had juast install vista you may have to wait some time to get all the updates and they will not come in the order that they reealy need to this was a big issue with me microsoft has got that realy screwed up.. so in saying that the drivers you are trying to use may not be supported yet it was a plumb joke i had issues up the wazzoo but noew that i am fulley up to to day updated all things are good so dont get your hopes up just yet on that driver install it may be a few months befor you get all the updates needed to support that card.......

now heres somthing for you to try and get somrthing that may or may not get things going for you clean out the drivers and get back to were your back on the windows defualt driver and nothing eise then go to device manager -- display-- your card-- proportys and try the update driver and let windows find the best driver that will work at the point were you are now. outher than what i explained you may be out of luck for awile ..

ya good luck the last time i reinstalled vista i had lots of issues but now seeing how the updates came all screw up and out of there proper order i do think that was most of the cause of them all but today its all good .. i was getting things like .net3 then amonth later it would send me .net1.5 and just things like that updates for supporting updates that i had not eaven got yet it was real stupid and i fought install issues bsods hangs it was a mess but like i said there finily all in and and now i'm rolling on no more hangs bsod things install well runs good .... it just took way more time then it should of no thanks to microsoft... they realy need to look at that but you know that being an older software they dont care what they want you to do is get mad and go buy there new stuff.. that realy dont seem to work anyway.

installing the new driver now! :D

Now to see if it works.

UPDATE: It did not work. I installed the new drivers directly from desktop, and it did NOT work. I'm posting this in safe mode again.

ok did you do it as i last said

now heres somthing for you to try and get somrthing that may or may not get things going for you clean out the drivers and get back to were your back on the windows defualt driver and nothing eise then go to device manager -- display-- your card-- proportys and try the update driver and let windows find the best driver that will work .

ok i'll have to get back with you later on this i just feel that if you just did the fresh install of vista it may still be in need of the updates required to get the card fully working as i found with mine.. its no fun when you got somthing and it dont do right i feel for you on that been there . but seeing that it fires up and works on the defualt driver shows that the card seem good. i wish i could do more for you. but its past my bed time but i'll be back to check your thread and help you some more if i can..

I did a fresh install of vista TODAY. Meaning all my old drivers were wiped out. So only the Nvidia were installed. I'm planning on downloading ALL the updates for vista TONIGHT.

good luck with microsoft giving you all the updates like i said it will be some time and then you got to hope they come in the right order and so forth ... like i said it was a joke wwith them. [ been there ] but if you just installed it like i said i would put that blame on microsoft and too fresh of install for now... i looked at nvidia and did not see were there driver was not compatible so good luck with the updates. it took a few months before things started to get right for me but now after a year and i am fully updated everything seems to work good but there for some time it was just a pain..

I need answers bro. I doubt that the updates were the problem. I only did a fresh install AFTER it did it with the up to date vista. So i got frustrated and reinstalled.

so you had vista on your rig for a long time and was fully updated when you first tryed to install the card ?? i use a amd card and it was not intill microsoft sent me all the .net stuff that the card fully worked correctly and when they sent that ,net they were out of order and what i found is that .net had to be installed in order. i was able to load the cards driver but not the outher stuff like ccc and what ever. thats the thing with me is that as long as i installed the cards driver and not all the stuff that came with it i was good but now i can install everything.. nvidia has been way easer do deal with then amd cards .

tell me what board and psu and chip you got ??

i was looking at this to see if somthing had changed for a install have you looked somthing like this over to see if you or i missed somthing??

http://www.nvidia.com/content/geforce-gtx/GF_GTX_650_Ti_User_Guide.pdf

give us your board info to look at ..

as for an exsample of what i saying in that nvidia link if you go to page 14 were it shows the nvidia installer has finished box and look at the added things that gets installed like the 4 items that its showing there in the box its that added stuff that i could not run at first so when i went to install the driver i choes costom install were theres a check list of what you want to install i unchecked everything but the cards driver and non of the added stuff that was listed, and for me that worked fine just the driver. and then went back and tryed to install each thing one at a time to see witch one of the extra programs was the one that failed

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7300 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 3060MB RAM
Board: intel g33m02
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 430W

By the way. I have a gtx 650. NOT a GTX 650 Ti

I'm trying that thing where i install JUST the driver. none of those extras.

ya i understand that.. ok i guess you disabled the onboard video and its drivers ? you got the card in the pci x16 slot and not the pcix1 slot? did you see what i was saying about the just install the driver and not all the extra stuff that comes along with it ?

the one thing i cant seem to find out is what that pci x16 slot is is it just pcix16 or x16 1.0 or a x16 2.0

i assume that this dell board is made by foxcon and its kinda old so far the last bios update looks like 7-9-2007 ?? you got better on that??

wow dude it may be that your rig may not support this card due to age and bios. i wish i had knowen all this from the start. were you useing a card before or just the onboard video?? just looks like your just outdated and need to upgrade the board. let me think on this some moer but it seems that age may be the issue.

i went back and reread some stuff you posted, but i did work in safe mode i'm at a loss you got the onboard video disabled and setup for a card?? did a clean driver install but will only wok in safe mode? ok when you got no drivers installed and its only got the windows defualt driver to run on will it go to desktop normal with out crashing or does it crash then to ?? or only displays right in safe mode ?

its realy looking down to a compatabilty issue the board is bad or too old youe new psu is bad this should not be this hard with nvidia. is there any way to check the card on another computer or a shop to check things out. i dont want to give up on you but theres somthing more to this than the driver. the only thing you have not spoke about is disabling the onboard graphics... when the card is in and you go to the device manager and open display device there should be just the vid card listed if it shows 2 devices the you need to disable the one you dont want under propretys. i'm running out of things to check or do.

also i have heard of dell, hp and them kinda computers fix there bios to prevent you from installing add on stuff or upgrades that is not theres that could be true here.
