I was trying to install Ubuntu on a new computer of mine, and when I tried to boot Ubuntu from a USB stick, I could not use the mouse or keyboard. They did not have any power, even though in the BIOS, I could use the mouse and keyboard just fine. What's happening?

More about : ubuntu installation shuts mouse

The most common reason for this is that you have the mouse and keyboard plugged into USB 3.0 ports (blue) and the OS you are attempting to boot or install does not support USB 3.0. Locate the USB 2.0 ports (black) on your PC and plug the mouse and keyboard into them. You don't gain anything by plugging them into a 3.0 port anyway.

How did you verify that?

The problem is one of three things:

1. As I stated previously. You are using USB 3.0 ports and your kernel does not have USB 3.0 support configured.
2. Your kernel does not support the specific hardware that you are using.
3. No USB support has been configured in your kernel.
