I have a new HDTV and am trying to hook up my DVD player. The only set of AV hookups on the TV are being used by headphones for Xbox. My DVD player has no HDMI output. I can get video via the component cables (red/blue/green) but no audio. Any ideas on how to get audio from the DVD player to TV?

what dvd player model? what television model?

it would be helpful if you just give a link to the products.

basically we need to know what inputs/outputs you have on the devices.

component is 5 cables... 3 video, 2 audio. likely you only have the video ones hooked up.

nput/Output
Video Output: 1set
S-Video Output: 1set
Component Video Output: 1set
Audio Output (L+R): 1set
Digital Audio Output (Coaxial): 1set

perhaps something like this?

to convert component video + spdif coax (from your dvd player) to hdmi (your tv)

It sounds like the TV only has one set of non HDMI inputs and you are using the composite video and L/R audio input for the Xbox. You can put in an audio input selector that would allow you to connect the DVD and Xbox to the same inputs for audio. This would work:

Just don't use the video part.

That's a neat device. I have to wonder what you would loose in the conversion process, though.
