Is ram the reason I lag in games?

So this free game called combat arms is horrible now. First off, I get called a hacker if i go over a x2 kill streak but that isn't the worst of it. I keep lagging and I have seen two types of lag throughout the time I'm playing. One is where Im guessing the frames drop and everytime I look around, everything is laggy. The second type of lag is where I will walk a few steps, freeze, and then appear somewhere else. Sometimes I will be sniping, freeze, and then fall off a building. Is it because of poor ram? I am going to build a pc and with my budget, I can only get a 2x2gb ddr3-1333. I hope this is not the problem, then what is? I will be running an apu so should i get faster ram to reduce lag? I don't think it is the gpu since I can load all the maps and there is no texture failure.

Solution

Sounds like a plan. And sadly there isn't really anything in this build you can cut down. Also, I would suggest adding a 500gb HDD as opposed to the 320gb you have. I picked this one out for you, it's a little more expensive, but will be worth it, especially if you will...

It's the GPU/CPU, the ram has little to do with lagging like this. Also it might be your internet connection. 4gb is ok for gaming, 8gb is sweetspot however. Try turning down the graphics settings. If that doesn't work, it's probably your internet. Hope this helps!

hmm, I have an i7 though, and im pretty sure it is using its igpu since its a laptop. Anyway while you are still here, can you review this build? I plan to upgrade from the apu to something like a 7770 later on but as of now, this will suite me for a long time. I can't really go more than $315. I know its a weird number but anyway.

Solid build. Especially for ~$300. As long as you upgrade and get a Graphics card later, this build will be fine. And yes, if you are using the CPU graphics then you will see better performance with better RAM, as Tradesman said.

Thank you! And yes this is my "holiday" build so I will order now and my bday is in july so I will ask to order a gpu like the 7770 1gb gddr5. Is there anything you would trim down to add in 4gb of 1866 or maybe even 8gb of 1600?

I have an external drive of 1tb so i think i will be okay. I only spend about less than 50 for each school year and I always have it sent to the external drive. So subtract about 75 to be on the safe side, that is about 245 gb that I can have for games and the os. This will be my first and only build as I will upgrade part by part so after the gpu, itll my next upgrade will be hdd to ssd and faster ram. Then as games get more intense, cpu/mobo/case/gpu will have to be thought of later. Thanks for the help and I will order tomorrow morning!

Haha yes you did but I now have a problem....I told my dad I will be upgrading the gpu and that is about 100 more so total $400. However, if microcenter has a really good cpu/mobo deal and if I get that in time by tomorrow, I can add in the 7770gpu and be a total of $350. Can you wait a little while I put in the parts so you can check it?

Here is the build. So ignore the price as the total will actually be $342.85 because microcenter has a really good deal on that cpu and mobo. How is this? I will be saving about $60 if I don't wait to upgrade.

Alright sounds good, and I hope I am not bothering you but this build will not work if I don't get the mail-in rebates. My dad will be disappointed that I went over $350 since that is all he will let me spend on now but if the parts work, he won't be as mad. Anyway, how are mail-in rebates? Is it just a scam that companies do? My dad says they can just say they did not get the mail and we can lose money. This kind of scares me. Also, if I get DOA parts, are the shipping to get a replacement our money or is it the company? Last question, do I need case fans? I saw a pair of 4 fans for about $30 but I might have to wait a while to get that later. Also, more fans mean more noise, would you get fans?

Number one, you aren't bothering me at all, I enjoy helping people on this forum. Number two, I haven't had experience with MIR's, so I'm not really sure, I do know that the companies you are getting these parts from are safe and probably won't scam you, I would not be worried about that. Number three, for the most part the company should pay for DOA parts, but it's 50/50 some companies do, some don't, also I wouldn't worry about this because for the most part, these are trusted resellers and shouldn't let you down. Case fans are a good Idea for optimizing air flow. I would get these though, Cooler master is a great brand and the price is unbeatable. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103052 Hope this is all helping you.

Thank you for your support, really appreciated! I will probably get those fans in but I am going to have to check the price on total. Yes, so I need to drop the gpu down butttt I don't want to XD
What happens if I do not buy fans for the case? What is the drawback? I mean, the gpu and cpu will have a fan/heatsink so I am not sure why fans are needed other than airflow. Could you elaborate on that?

Essentially the goal of good airflow in a PC is to have intake fans bringing in cold air through the front of the case, and out take fans pushing the air out through the top back, this way will cool all of the parts of your computer, not just the CPU/GPU, and will also keep the interior of the case cooler in turn the GPU/CPU will be cooler. It's not necessary but it helps.

Do you think it could wait 6-7 months depending on shipping? I also want to check my local electronics store for case fans because we can get coupons there or something. If not, I will have to order them as a birthday present which will be in july.

I will probably buy the fans when I get skyrim and since midterms are coming, I don't even think I will be playing much games but stream hd video on youtube until summer

Case fans should NOT be your priority, they are more like expansion items. Wait as long as you need, but eventually you should get some.

Ok you just relieve me! I will get them when I get skyrim like I said just to be on the safe side which will probably be in july. Well, thank you for staying with me this whole time, I would not have a pc to build without your help! I really appreciate it and happy holiday, even though the holiday has ended...did kwanza end? haha thanks so much again!
