Need help connecting GPU (Prob Easy Question)

I recently purchased a XFX R9 280 and failed tried to connect it. First I removed my HD 6850 with no issues, and placed the R9 280 ( new card ) into the tower with no hiccups. The R9 requires an 8 pin and 6 pin to power it. I took the 6 pin that was required to run the 6850 and plugged it into the R9 280, but what do I use to power the 8 pin slot on the card? Which cord do I use that they gave me? Really new to this.

Ok, what power supply do you have? You might have one with an 8 pin PCI-E plug already inside your system. If not, use two molex connections to one 8pin, (The one to the right in the first linked picture.) The molex wires from your power supply should look like this http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Molex_female_connector.jpg

That should do it, if you don't have any of those, you will need to buy some, you have a modular power supply from what I can see, so you can find extra cords online.

Alright, if it came with the right cords, you should be able to put an 8pin cord into one of the Red ports on your power supply, and put the other side of the cord into the Graphics card. That will do it.

Alright, I almost understand. In the picture, you can see that they only gave me one cord with an 8 pin, with the other end being different. (1st linked picture, cord on the left). What cord am I looking for to connect my power supply (8 pin) to my gpu (8 pin)? If you could link what I am looking for I would be greatful.

I appreciate the help, but why would they give me two cords that were absolutely useless to the installation of the card? In the picture, the two cords I am holding is what they gave me. Are there any retail stores that I could get that 8 pin to 8 pin cord at? And also, it seems that link you sent me is for the CPU, is that fine?

The two extra cords included with the card are for people with older power supplies that don' have an 8pin PCI-E power cable. Most people don't use them. I'm not sure if that CPU power 8 pin would work, to be safe use this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812162021 it will be perfect, and it's nice to your wallet. ;) Hope this helps, don't forget to pick a best solution to help people with the same problem!
