So I bought a sapphire toxic R9 280x and my monitor isnt HD...it has VGA. Only. So for now I have to use a VGA to DVI adapter. But what do I use?HDMI or DVI when I have an HD monitor?

Use an HDMI cable, it's faster. Hope this helps!

Oh no, sorry I misunderstood the question. You will need a DVI to VGA adapter, you cannot go from HDMI to vga. Sorry about that, go with DVI to VGA. Hope this helps.

Ok, Let me clarify. HDMI to VGA is not possible unless you have a special adapter. HDMI to DVI is possible, with your HD monitor, if it has an HDMI port, go from HDMI to HDMI, if it only has DVI and VGA, go from HDMI to DVI. It's faster then DVI to DVI. Hope this helps!! and please select best answer to help people with the same problem, it's pretty complicated.

again no. the person will find visual distortion using hdmi cables . using hd monitors anyone will recommend going from dvi to dvi. i believe you should get a vga connector with your amd gpu. use that to connect to your gpu. anyone will tell you amd hdmi has issues so you see better image quality using a dvi port. only advantage of hdmi over dvi is that hdmi has sound capability.
