So I have or should maybe say had a 560Ti, I could run TF2 at about 300fps constantly but according to the manual the 560 ti can't output 120hz @ 1080p. So I need a card slightly better than the 560 ti I guess but it needs to be guaranteed to work at 120hz and 1080p, I would have settled for a lower resolution on my old GPU but seen as I'm buying a new GPU I want to be picky. It seems that nowhere holds this kind of information, is it simply down to the fact that some cards can be used with dvi dual link and some can't?
My setup is; MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz 52 °C
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. P67A-UD3-B3 (Socket 1155) 29 °C
Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (CardExpert Technology)
Hard Drives
977GB Western Digital WDC WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0 ATA Device (SATA) 30 °C
Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50 ATA Device
DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio
and I'll be getting the XL2411T monitor

I was thinking about the GTX 580 but as I said I'm unsure as to what it is that tells me a particular card can do 120hz/1080p, I don't care about running other games or playing with a better graphics cfg, only the screen res and 120hz

Solution
Get a modern card, no reason to buy something that by this point is two generations old.
Any card with a Dual Link DVI or Displayport connection should support 120hz output, no idea why your 560Ti wouldnt be able too.
The 760's are a great price right now, probably the best bang for your buck of almost all the cards for gaming as the amd ones have gone way up in price due to bitcoin miners. the 270x is a similar card but performs ever so slightly slower. Both are under $300
