The title sums up the thread. After a lot of careful consideration between going with 2x GTX 760s or going with a single GTX 780, I believe the 780 is the best choice.

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-GTX780-SuperClocked-...

With that said, typically NVidia releases their next series GPUs in the late first quarter, early second quarter, of the year, and I was wondering if I would be spending a lot more now, compared to waiting until the 800 series comes out, and then buying one then?

Also, if you have any comments/suggestions when it comes to what I have said above, please post!

Thank you in advance.

I would wait at LEAST til Q1 to decide, with the newish R9 series cards prices are all over the place, the 780 is coming down in price and it's not going to stop, so wait a bit.

If you are going to wait until the next new thing, or wait until the current thing goes down in price, you will be forever waiting.

I know there is no way you could tell this for sure, but how much would I actually be saving by waiting another two to three months? I'm guessing it'll be somewhere within the $450 mark, but I honestly have no idea considering the R9 series has already caused them to drop.

Thanks again for the fast response.

I completely agree, which is why I am posting because I have been beating myself up over it. With that said, if I am waiting at least a few months to only save say, $25-$30, then I have no problem dropping $500 now.

For me, it really comes down to whether or not the card drops $75-$100 within the next few months. If we know, either with 100% certainty, or at least a good amount of certainty, that a price drop of that much won't be happening, than that will help me with my decision to buy it now.

I think it's safe to say that the 780 will be around 430-450 in a few months time.

The 780 is a great buy and outrageously capable overclocker ... the EVGA SC series would be the absolute last 780 I would ever buy. All of the other major manufacturer's use a custom PCB and beefed up VRM on their factory overclocked cards. The EVGA SC series however is the only one that used a stock PCB / VRM. The EVGA Classified OTOH A9long w/ the the MSI Lightning), isin a special category.....a superb card with even a beefier VRM than the Asus, MSI, GB use in their regular factory OC'd lines.

Everything related to the 800 series cards at this point is pure speculation.

I have twin Asus 780 DCII's conservatively OC'd witha 25+% OC on the core and 20+% on the memory.....in use, the boost clock hits close to 39% over stock settings.

But thats the trick isn't it? I think it is safe to say that any flagship video card on the market now will be some amount cheaper "a few months" from now. But a few months from now, you will again be able to say the exact same thing. Repeating, forever. Such is the way of things in this industry.

Yes but maybe for this particular customer waiting might be better, for instance he might have other things to buy right now and would rather not pay $500 for a GPU. But I see your reasoning, do not perpetuate.

Well, I will be honest in saying that paying $500-$530 now compared to $430-$450 3-4 months from now will not effect me either way. I do like to maximize the value all of my purchases, and that is why I could wait a few months to see what the prices are within a few months.

I definitely understand that it is a question that can be continually asked throughout the year because I could argue that once the 800 series comes out, then I could be looking at another 3-4 months before another price drop due to the higher-end 800 series cards coming out. While I thank you for pointing that out, I will be buying a card within the next few months. I do not want to wait another six to eight months.

Going back to what Jack pointed out, I did overlook other companies at first due to myself being a huge fan of EVGA due to their customer support being awesome as well as their warehouse being in the same state as me, in case I have to RMA for whatever reason. Lastly, all of the EVGA cards had great reviews so I got sucked into wanting to go with them.

I do like what I have read about the Asus, and am actually going to heavily consider going with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... .

Thank you very much for the fast responses and detailed comments. Merry Christmas.
