In reading the post on power up problems, I discovered I failed rule one... CPU power. got that 8 pin pwr plugged in. I also rechecked everything. I found I incorrectly applied the cpu/cpu fan goop and put too much there. I will have to clean that up today, somehow. Anyway, went to power it up and now nothing. Nothing period. I do see that there is power to the video card, as the light changes from red to green. That is where I am at. I have no idea as if it is now a PSU problem or a Motherboard problem. Should I remove the some items from the MB and try to power up after cleaning the exess cpu goop and reapplying correctly?
Thanks in advance
RESOLVED! Made a couple of errors on my first build. First, I followed the link that tells you how to troubleshoot power up problems. Great advice. My errors were I assumed the brass mounts for the MB were all in, when the top two were not, this was the shorting problem. I added them.
Second, I cleaned off the Arctic Silver 5 from the heatsink/fan and the cpu. Thankfully, it had not spread to any pins or contact area. I used Xylene as per the Arctic Silver 5 instruction site, followed up by isopropyl alcohol. I actually read the mfr instructions on how to apply their product. What an fool I was by Assuming.
Installed the fan/heatsink, reconnected ALL the power cords to the MB. Said a prayer and viola, it fired up and I am now installing drivers. Hopefully, someone may learn from my mistakes...
