I certainly rushed getting the AOC-E2251FWU, and I think this may be a big mistake.

I was originally planning on purchasing an identical monitor to the one I have now. (AOC E2251Swdn). I saw there was a newer model available and only read a couple reviews before purchasing.

My big problem is that I didn't realize that this is "usb powered" instead of DVI or HDMI. The quality is definitely worse. The screen is much darker and seems to be at a lower resolution even though it claims to be at 1080p.

In Control Panel the display is listed as "Display device on: VGA" instead of my other monitor which is labeled as 2251w.

I don't mind it too much, but is there any way I can get a better quality without purchasing a $70 USB 2.0 to HDMI adapter?

Here's the product on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/AOC-E2251FWU-22-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B0073BOCNU

Solution
Well that is an unusual connection method. This monitor seems to be a really nichey product. I would return it and get a better monitor if I was you. This thing seems really cool if you needed a low power monitor that was portable and worked on USB, but as a conventional monitor I would think this is a terrible idea.
