Are cheap usb wifi adapter with no atenna reliable?

I have an old pc with a wifi card but it is unstable and most of the time does not connect to my wifi network although it has 2-3 bars signals... i was wondering if the cheap usb wifi adapters sold on ebay are more reliable? : http://www.ebay.com/itm/150Mbps-150M-Mini-USB-WiFi-Wireless-Adapter-Network-LAN-Card-802-11n-g-b-HE-/141085514667?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Wi_Fi_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item20d95a1bab

they don't have antenna though... how are the range of these antenna-less adapters..

there are also antenna version a il bit more expensive:
