so I have a dell OptiPlex 360 ( or so it says on the outer box)
it has a e93839 mother board with a single PCI-E x16 lane
and the gpu that I have is a Dell ATI Radeon HD3470 256MB Low-Profile Dual DisplayPort Video Card C120D
but after I put the gpu in the the pci e x16 lane, restart it , my monitor doesn't show signal until after I take the gpu , the motherboard has a integrated vga graphic card ive tried disabling the onboard gpu but that didn't work and I need help , is there any step that I am missing to make my gpu get recognized ? and work with my monitor ?

Don't be afraid, you have to do this, otherwise you can not install new card.

You have to uninstall Intel vide driver in Device Manager, and then follow instructions.

At worst, you will have very low resolution screen view.

Which Windows OS you have? Vista, Win7 or Win8? It can be 32 bit or 64 bit, not 63 bit.

This might take some time, but it has to be done in order for you to succeed in your project, there is always a first time.

Answer those questions first.

Also, are you good in navigating around Windows components, or you need detailed instructions (this will take a lot of time).
First let figure out which form factor you have:

dell_optiplex_360.jpg

Larger to the right is Mini Tower (MT), and smaller to the left is Desktop (DT).

So which one?

This is your service manual http://www.dell.com/downloads/emea/products/optix/optiplex_brochure_360_en_new.pdf

Did you have any stand alone PCIE GPU before, or only integrated Intel graphic chip?

Have you uninstall your previous video drivers?

There is know glitch with Catalyst installation, is this is the problem, or you were able to instal Catalyst?

Your turn.

I have the mini tower (MT).
and it only has an integrated intel graphic chip
also I haven't uninstall the previous video driver because im afraid that Im going to end up with no video output.
and i when i install the catalyst it had a question mark on the finish installation screen.

I was looking into the service manual for the OptiPlex 360 MT and it says that it comes with a 32 bit operating system and mine is a 63 bit

ok so I uninstall the driver for the intell chip, shutdown the cpu, insert the gpu into the pci slot
turn on the cpu but still I have no signal. am i missing something? i understand that the onboard gpu is not going to have signal because the bios will automatically switch to the pci slot but im not getting signal on the monitor

Do not install anything yet, connect monitor to the original VGA, go to BIOS, I can not see your BIOS, you need to go to PCIE tab or entry and select AUTO detect or something similar.

Even without driver you should see very low resolution through your new card.

Then shut down, disconnect monitor from original VGA, install card, connect monitor to VGA or DVI on the new card, start PC, if you see the screen, go to my link and my instructions to save time, if not, screen is dark, let me know, however my next response would be tomorrow, Pacific Time, so try all possibilities today and ask all questions.
