I have downloaded Microsoft Office 2010 and it asks me what file to open with?
A dropdown list appears but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas???

what do you mean "downloaded"

legally?

software from microsoft which you purchase is typically an exe file so opens with a double click just fine. if you are having trouble send a mail to microsoft asking details.

edit: i forgot that microsoft sometimes lists iso files on their site as noidea said below. (this would end in .iso) you burn them to a disk an it installs from the disk. or as an alternative you can use a program like daemontools which creates a "virtual dvd driv" on your pc so you can open iso files directly.

if you got it from "the other side of the internet" then we cannot help you with illegal hacked pirated software.

Did you find a solution? I have the same problem. I have an unused legit product key card for Office 2010 and wanted to install on a new laptop running windows 8. . I went to office.com/productkeycard site as directed on the key card plastic case. Once I had downloaded Office 2010 the file has no .exe and windows asks which programme I want to open the file with. Any thoughts anybody? Is this a problem with Windows 8 (which I think has Office 2013 preinstalled?).
