hey all,

im planning on getting a hp 8100 elite small form factor pc. i have a deal lined up for a used one for $200, so im going to try and make a semi-decent gaming computer on the cheap.

it has 8gb ddr3 ram, an intel i5-660 cpu, and a 240 watt power supply.

im going to be adding a dedicated card to this machine. it has pci e 2.0, although it only has a 240 watt power supply.

i need a low profile card. whats the best card i can get in there that the power supply can handle?

HP Support says that these cards are supported :

NVIDIA GeForce 310 DP PCIe x16 Graphics Card

Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 Graphics Card

Nvidia Quadro NVS 295 Graphics Card

ATI Radeon HD 4550 Graphics Card

ATI Radeon HD 4650 DP (1GB) PCIe x16 Graphics Card (CMT only)

This means that the system can support a card with no power connectors, so the best gpu you could get is a 7750.

Yes, Pcie 3 is backwards compatible with Pcie 2. I googled elite 8100 and clicked the first link :)

Hey just wondering how that card worked out? I've been trying to find these cards myself and haven't had much luck. I just want an upgrade from the hd integrated q57
