Hi Toms hardware mems!

Need a little advice about my faulty 7850 1gb OC edition from newegg.com ;)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

My first one had artifacting on screen when i was browsing the internet on firefox/google chrome.

This second one that i got after I RMA'd the first one flat out won't start up correctly frequent driver crashes, and artifacting while idleing at windows startup. It won't even work even on a clean install of windows 7 64bit.

Is it uncommon for them to "replace" a sapphire card with another one they had lying around so to speak? The second one is more messed up than the last one, at least i could play games. It doesn't look brand new that's for sure, there's evidence that the DVI-D, and DVI ports had something plugged into them already. Also I'm going to RMA this one again... 2nd RMA am I crazy? has anyone had to do this before?

Sapphire you're terrible, and this product is plagued with horror stories similar to mine, no wonder you discontinued this product.

Ok. Your first card was probably demonstrating driver glitches but was otherwise healthy. My AMD cards (a variety) almost all artifact in Firefox unless I turn off hardware acceleration; then they're fine. Since they work perfectly in my games, I'm satisfied I don't have a hardware problem.
As to your second card, since it seems to be bad even after a fresh install, I'd say that one is indeed a bad card.

I should not have RMA'd the first one then... this second one is completely messed up though.

Yeah, but thinking the first one was defective is understandable. I was pretty miffed when my brand new HD7970 did that last spring, until I remembered having the same issue with a HD7870 and a HD7770, and that turning off hardware acceleration in Firefox had fixed it. Nowhere else had there been artifacts; just in Firefox.

Thanks so much for the help!

I thought it was my motherboard, or something more serious, but i definitely don't like when it's occuring especially when i've got a perfectly good Powercolor 7870 LE sitting in another machine that shows no signs on the same defects with the same drivers. However, I read firefox's latest patch details, and they mentioned the problem about Firefox that apparently affects more than just me and you.

I thought my card was faulty because only google chrome, and firefox would display such issues, and was mad that the card would respond in such a fashion. New cards shouldn't do that... Not to bash AMD's drivers, but seriously they need some help, as well as, the applications that cause the artifacting.

Both companies have driver problems from time to time, but this one has persisted for quite a while, and it may well be a Firefox issue (I don't have Chrome). In any case, hopefully the third time will be the charm.

The symptoms OP is talking about with both cards, force me to think both the cards are faulty. RMA the card ASAP would be my suggestion.

I have emailed their support, and am going to RMA it ASAP trust me because this is pissing me off, and it's the worst feeling when you've spent money to see it just be wasted. The tech support started to almost blame me, and wasn't very understanding they havn't replied yet. Thank God for multiple email addresses.
