From reading some of the comments on the page, it looks like that link is to a Windows 8 Pro DVD product. I'm not sure if you will get a discount on that particular site but you can get a student discount here (download version) http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msin/en_GB/pdp/Windows-8.1-Pro-Student/productID.288571500. Your institution may also have something like DreamSpark http://dreamspark.com where you may be eligible to download Windows 8 for free but you'd have to ask the appropriate...

You want Windows 8.1 now, not 8. There are many system builders discs on Amazon. But shipping to India would be the problem. Although if you messaged the seller, many would probably ship there. They would just have to get a quote from USPS, FedEx, UPS, ect....

But why not buy from the Windows store? India link? It's 18,999.00 Rs.

I guess your looking to stay up on technology. But personally I won't install 8 on anything PC I own. I hate that OS. It's windows 7 for me!

The Upgrade Pack will allow you to upgrade from a previous version of Windows (XP, Vista, or 7). You will not be able to install Windows 8 Pro using the Upgrade Pack without one of those OSs present. The non Upgrade Pack version will allow you to install Windows 8 Pro on a drive without having to have a previous version of Windows.

That is Windows 8.1 which is the newest version of Windows 8. You'll want to look at the differences for the Windows 8.1 family here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/products-and-technologies/windows-8-1/compare/default.aspx to determine if you'll want 8.1 instead of 8.1 Pro.

Also,

The Upgrade Pack will allow you to upgrade from a previous version of Windows (XP, Vista, or 7). You will not be able to install Windows 8 Pro using the Upgrade Pack without one of those OSs present. The non Upgrade Pack version will allow you to install Windows 8 Pro on a drive without having to have a previous version of Windows.

It looks like the Microsoft Store doesn't sell a DVD copy of Windows 8.1 on their India site (they do in US). You can purchase Windows 8.1 from there and use a utility such as ImgBurn http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn the .iso file to a DVD for use. You can also purchase a Windows 8 Pro (or non pro) DVD and get a free upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro (or non pro). Or you could find a site that sells the DVD version (not too familiar with India sites, sorry), or import a copy.

I posted a link earlier in this thread that shows the differences between editions of non Pro and Pro, look there and if you don't need the extra functionality of Pro then get the non Pro version.

Use a utility such as the Microsoft USB/DVD tool http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool (The guide and download are viewable via the link) or ImgBurn http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn the .iso file to a DVD for use in your new computer. Here is a link to a step by step guide for ImgBurn: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/how-to-burn-your-windows-7-iso-to-dvd-disc/3317

The software and guides say Windows 7 but will also work for Windows 8.

Thanks a lot for your input. :)
You guys really solved my confusion
Even I don't want windows 8
7 is better.
But I have read that battlefield 4
Works better on windows 8
So I will use windows for gaming
OS X for daily use
And Linux for programming
If I can get a student discount
I will surely opt for that
But If I don't flipkart is the only way
Thanks a lot. :)
