Hi guys
I've had a problem with my computer lately. It started with the screen freezing whenever it felt like, mostly when im just browsing on sites, but also in games at times. It's random when it happens, can be 5 mins after boot or 4 hours. My monitor has dvi and vga, i use the dvi and has done without problems for 1.5 year.

My system:
Mobo: Asus p8h61 mx(old: p8h61-lx)
cpu: I5 3570k
Gpu: asus gtx 560
Ram: kingston 8g 1 stick
Psu: inter-tech sl 700w (not 80+)
hdd: 1 x 500gb

What I've tried so far.
- check for virus/malwear
- Updating all drivers and swiping old(everything is always up to date)
- run ram, hdd test
- updated gpu bios and drivers
- update mobo bios
- formting hdd
Most of it in safe mod also.
After formating i reinstalled all drivers and i still froze
So i send the pc in for warrenty, they couldnt find anything wrong with it, but swapped the mobo anyways, along with the ram.
Now i've had it back since the 23. dec and first i did was ofc to connect it to the screen, webs etc.

And it froze again, Frustration is over me :'(
So the last few days i've been trying everything again.
And the i figured, what was the 1 thing of mine he didnt get in the shop... the monitor.

So then i figured it could be the screen, which has dvi and vga inputs, and it freeze up on both.
So i changed to my old 8800gts gpu with dvi and it didnt freeze anymore(was yesterday)
So today i put back the gtx 650 and connected to the tv with vga, took 5 mins then it froze
I then connected a hdmi to the tv and its been stable for 5 hours now, in games, webs, everything.

I dont have an extra psu to test with.

So my great question(also checked google for this quite a few times) is.
Is it the gpu dvi and vga slots thats faulty?
Psu not producing enough power?(seems strange since it's alright on hdmi, but not on dvi and vga)
Other ideas?

Hope you guys can help a bit

Cheers

Hi
my understanding :
GTX-650 - VGA / DVI Freez
GT-8800 - VGA/DVI NO FREEZE
Then it`s the GTX-650 Causing the problem !

+1 ^, seems simple to me, old card working, new card is not, issue is with the video card. Especially since that is the one thing you did not replace. Nothing to do with the fact that you are using VGA or DVI connections on the monitor. It would be like thinking that your car is broken because it's blue if another car you have is red and is working fine. Would you think that painting your broken car red would fix it?

ye ofc, but I mean why is the hdmi not freezing and the vga and dvi is? thats just how it is?
the dvi and vga dont requite more power and thus the psu isnt enough to power it because its faulty?

pc monitor dont have hdmi so im testing this on tv, text says that, sorry if the text is a bit messy ;)

as i was writing this the pc just froze with the hdmi to tv, and i had to reboot, so

Gtx 560 connected to tv with vga or hdmi = freeze
Gtx 560 connected to pc monitor with vga or dvi = freeze

8800 gts connected to pc monitor = win
Same cable used

OK - take this GTX 560 to some friend PC to be tested
If you freez again then you can trow this GPU away .....

From your testing, contact the maker of the 560 if it's in warranty and let them know what is happening.

So was just curious is anybody had experienced something alike or know the grand solution ;)

Lots of people have had, and will have, the same type of issues, the fix is to replace the video card if everything else was ruled out.

The 8800 has about the same power draw as the gtx 650, if it was the power supply, both card should be crashing.

ok, thanks for that. That clarified a thing or 2 for me ;)
I guess i have to have the gpu checked.

occasionally it also just freezes for a brief moment, maybe 5-10 secs and then recovers.
