hey,

i bought a GTX 770 a few days ago, and i knew i needed a new PSU for it to power it.
but what i didnt knew is that my motherboard power supply connector is a 12-pin.
i didnt knew they excisted.

i got some pictures here where u can see the cables

MY POWER SUPPLY CONNECTOR FOR MOTHERBOARD:

CLOSE UP FROM POWER SUPPLY PLUGGED IN:

A COMPLETE PICTURE FROM MY MOTHERBOARD:

so iff u could find a PSU with:
minimum 600 watts
6-pin PCIe
6+2-pin PCIe
and this type of power supply connector

i would be so happy iff u could find it.

What motherboard is that? I think that may be a proprietary power connector.

Well, then chances are they brewed up their own special power connector that won't work with regular power supplies.

Probably, unless they happen to offer a power supply upgrade that is sufficient for the GTX 770.

What is the make and model of your pre-built desktop? . Your power connector looks just like the Acer / Gateway proprietary connector others have reported in models such as . . .

Acer Aspire AT3-605-UR20 . (i5-4330 / 12gb / 2tb)
Acer Aspire AT3-605-UR21 . (i7-4770 / 12gb / 1tb)
Acer Predator AG3-605-UR24 . (i7-4770 / 12gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX4885-UB3A . (i5-4430 / 8gb / 1tb)
Gateway DX-4885-UR21 .(i5-4430 / 8gb / 1tb)

There are many reports of surprise, frustration, and dissatisfaction on the internet from many owners of all of these models, when they open up the PC and discover the difficulty of a PSU upgrade due to the A/G proprietary 12-pin mobo connector.

I think that it will be either very difficult or impossible to find an aftermarket / third-party power supply that comes with a plug-and-play connector that will plug into your motherboard with the correct [Acer/Gateway proprietary] pinout.

There are Dell (and maybe HP) ATX PSU's that include a 12-pin connector [e.g. Dell GM869 875W] along with a 24p connector, but I would question whether the 12p was ever intended to be the a main ATX power connector to the motherboard [unless maybe you go all the back to the days of the AT (vs ATX) connector standard?]. . Chances are that the Dell pinout will be different than the HP pinout will be different than the Acer/Gateway pinout.

With reference to a 650W Dell PowerEdge 1800 Server PSU, participant know as "hurgh" states:
"Turns out the 12 pin connector is just for for power to the SATA drives. This was obvious once I pulled the server apart... "]

But -- coming back to the Acer/Gateway proprietary-12p "roadblock" -- there are DIY workaround solutions discussed at:

and an eBay workaround solution [if this link is still live] at:

That's a proprietary connection specific to certain boards , you see them on some Hp's and DELL'S also.
