Ok so this is my computer: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay/?spf_p.tpst=kbDocDisplay&spf_p.prp_kbDocDisplay=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c03353576-11%257CdocLocale%253D%257CcalledBy%253D&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken

My question is if this RAM is compatible: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104173

Since my motherboard only has 4 slots, I would remove my existing 2GB stick and just add it in.

Also if you don't want to check what my computer is on the website this is all the info:

Memory

Amount: 10 GB
Speed: PC3-12800 MB/sec (runs as PC3-10600 in this system)
Type: DDR3-1600

Memory upgrade information
Dual channel memory architecture
Four 240-pin DDR3 DIMM sockets
Supports DDR3 DIMMs
PC3 10600 (1333 MHz)
PC3 12800 (1600 MHz)
PC3 14400 (1866 MHz)
Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
Supports 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB or 8 GB DIMMs
Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems

and mother board is: MSI MS-7778

THANKS :D

So you are pproposing removing the 2 GB and keeping your other 8GB and adding another 8GB? If so I'd start by saying any time you mix DRAM it can be problematic, there's no guarantee the two sets of sticks will play together, they might, they might not...Best bet is to simply get get a set of 2x8GB(1600 or 1866), then you know you have 16GB - can then sell off your other sticjks or try them - if they will play together you have a bonus of 8GB, or sell and get some of your money back

Is there really no way to know if they'll wok together even if they're both PC3 12800 1600 MHz? What more info would you need?

Correct, you can buy two sets of identical DRAM (and even with them having consecutive serial numbers and they might not play - that's why such a wide variety of sets are offered - the sticks in a set are tested to work together, which is also why the larger sets (say 4 sticks) cost more than a pair of 2 sticks sets), DRAM can be very finicky because (especially at 1600 and up) the tolerances are so tight - similar to CPUs - take ten 4770K CPUs off a production line and maybe 2 can OC to 4.8, maybe 4 total can hit 4.6 and only 7 of the ten will hit 4.4

Ahh okay thank you for the info :) I just have 1 last question in that case. If I do get 2x8GB Sticks, is it worth it to go with something like this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233536
or would it not change much if i go for something less expensive like http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148600

I do a lot of video editing and rendering as well as midcore gaming. Also I know that I posted a link to my current computer but I forgot to mention that I changed out my psu for an XFX 550w and I added in an R9 270x if that info changes anything. Thanks!
