I'm building a new system, Asus Z87 Deluxe Quad board with Intel 4771K CPU. The memory is GSKILL 2133 MHz so I at least need to overclock to that point. Can I use the Intel fan included with the CPU, or will I really need an aftermarket bidASS fan?

Solution

Yes, actually non-k indexed CPUs are the ones which Intel call them partially unlocked and that means you can still overclock them but not as much as unlocked k CPUs. Being able to OC depends on your mobo chipset. If you have a Z87, then you can OC. You need an after market fan too.

If you really need to overclock your haswell 4771, then you need an aftermarket fan too.
BTW, your cpu is locked and you can't overclock a locked CPUs as much as an unlocked version. Intel "k" indexed CPUs are unlocked versions.

Well, I guess that raises the question of did I screw up with my CPU choice, or can I still use my 2133 RAM at that speed with the 4771 CPU?

I HAD the 4770K CPU in my "basket" at one point, but somewhere between starting the build on paper and actually placing the order (after weeks of adjusting the components) it apparently was replaced with the 4771...
