Ok so i just got a new SSD (samsung 840 evo 250gb) but i never installed a ssd before, i thought i would just plug into my desktop and install windows 8.1 from my cd. but when i read the instructions that came with the drive, it shows me plugin it in with a sata to usb adapter to install some software on it first. the SSD i got comes with no adapters or anything so how can i plug in the drive to install the software first.

I just want to make sure im right so i don't mess anything up. the way i thought i would do it is just plug in the drive normally and go to disk management to assign it a drive letter then install the software then boot into bios and install windows. Is this the right way or the wrong way?

Thanks for the help

here is link to the model i bought

Those instructions are probably for some freeware / proprietary software that came with the drive. If you provide a link to the manufacturer and model we can see if we can identify it.

The best way to install is to disconnect all other hard drives, connect the SSD to your first SATA port, boot from the installation media and do the install. Having only the SSD on the system at the time keeps the installation process from using the boot segment of one of your old drives. No need to give the disk a drive letter beforehand; the installation process will create partition and format and such for you.
