my pc does not find my ide hard drive until I reboot

Fist, in BIOS Setup, make sure the hard drive is set as the first boot device in the boot sequence.
Also check that the power and data cables are securely connected to the drive, and that the configuration jumper on the back of the drive is in the correct position for your particular drive setup.
