Undecided; the 7850 or the R7 260x ? (or something different?)

Hi there,

after quite a few years of not caring for PC's, i decided against a new Console (until some games are out) and instead bought myself some PC Parts*.

as i pointed out i am more than just uninformed, and i wanted to buy myself a 7850 since the card is available for 140€-ish and looked like a good catch for the money, however there is this new series of AMD Cards, and the more i look at the R7 260X, the more i want that one instead. while it looks like the latter ain't as good, it just looks shiny, as it is a newer card, and while i dont understand the whole Mantle thing yet (other than being a possible DirectX replacement) the R7 looks slightly more "future proof" *cough cough*.. before jumping to wrong conclusions though, i'd like to have advice from people who actually know about that stuff better than me, so any advice (maybe even for completely different cards in the same price range) would be enormously helpful to me.

(*what i got myself; i3-4130, 2x 4GB 1600 Hyper X, MSI something board, 1TB WD Blue, 500W Be-Quiet Power Supply)

Note; What might be important is that i dont necessarily need 1080p. i do have a little 1080p tv i want to use the PC with, but i can live with the 720p/900p that the INTEL 4400 is working with right now.

Edit: .. yes, i just now read a few of the stickies, sorry. (but i did!).. games i like to play are, sometimes, MMO's like FFXIV or maybe even WoW, but my main interrest is in games like Skyrim, and things like the Witcher Series, if this is of importance. (even though i am more interested in overall performance of the Cards, for there are a few shooters that look appealing to me, like Bioshock Infinite.)

The R7 260X is basically a 7790, except clocked a little higher. So it's somewhat slower than the 7850. On the other hand, it uses less power and it has AMDs new TrueAudio feature enabled. Not many games support that yet, but maybe that'll change in 2014.

As for "newer", they're pretty much built on the same tech (apart from TrueAudio). They both support Mantle, and the 7850 is at least as future-proof (again, except for TrueAudio).

thanks for the answers, i really appreciate it. i'll go with the 7850 then as it is also capable of supporting mantle. (and i dont care that much for true Audio.)

thanks again!
