hey guys. i upgraded my GPu to an r9 270x for christmas :D Sadly, i believe i have a bottleneck. i try playing Bf4 64 Man @ Ultra with it and i average around 35-40 FPS and have minimums of around 27. isnt this a bit low for the card?

Full Specs
Athlon X4 760k ( the richland part) Oced@4.5ghz.(Comparable to a 4300)
8GB ram
1080p

the 270 x isnt a particularly powerful card sitting between 7870 and 7950 so on ultra settings your gonna be looking at 45-50 fps tops and low 30s, turn some of the quality settings down particularly aa and soft shadows you should see a healthy bump. maybe switch the fxaa rather than msaa.
if your fps doesnt jump up then yeah a possible bottleneck resulting from an weak cpu.

Is it that weak? In this sites gaming CPu hierarchy chart it is in the same tier as a 6300 and your i7 920

Gotta play with the Vid setting in BF4, I have a 7870 and vsync on and can get 60fps on most maps, it does dip down, but not too low... i can post my settings when i get home.. I have a mix of ultra and high settings.

I just ordered another 7870 so Ill be doing crossfire soon (prepping for titanfall) ..

Also looks like theres some new AMD drivers, try those as well...

open up your task manager and then resource manager. see if your cpu is maxed when playing..

lol its not in the same ballpark as the i7 920 or the 6300 mate even with that hefty oc.
the athlon x4 is based on a cut down phenom 2 which has a performance delta in the region of 20% less than the i7 920. even with your oc of 4.5ghz my 3.6 ghz will still give the i7 a 10% bump in performance over and above.
the tier system isnt that accurate mate. athlon cpu's still bottleneck before there intel counterparts do.

Its not the old athlons......its amazing how many people dont know this :p its based on the richland architecture, related to vishera which is used in the FX chips. it uses piledriver modules. performance is like a 4300 os i dont think it should bottleneck

did you read what i said. i said athlons based on cut down phenoms 2's which is what they are.. its actaully nothing like a 4300. your thinking the 4300 is a quad core its not its a dual module chip so for comparison sake should be thought of as a 4 threaded dual core.
the 6300 compares to a 6 thread tri core
8300 compares to a quad core 8 thread cpu.
phenom 2 is a different architecture to vishera/piledriver so shouldnt be compared core to core performance wise.
phenom 2 will bottleneck a gpu quicker than a vishera because the vishera has more available bandwidth.

Your not understanding. My cpu is recent.. released this year
It is based on the richland architecture used in apus on fm2 socket. This cpu is like a 4300 2 modules 4 threads. Phenom 2 is based on k10 architecture. .... this is amd's last generation architecture and what older athlons were based on m the athlon x4 740/750k/760k are based on richland........ this is based on piledriver cores found in the fx series. Maybe now you understand
