Okay my toshiba 500gb is "failing" or whatever. Occasionally I'll hear a clicking noise and then the computer basically freezes, windows has also told me my hard drive has messed up. No big deal, I buy my new hard drive. How would i go about replacing it? I know how to stick the thing in my computer, but how do i transfer everything over? I've looked up cloning or creating a system image, but no clear tutorial on how to do that. So how would I do it? The bad hard drive still functions 90% of the time, i can get data off of it. I dont want to redownload everything, ive had to do that once when windows screwed up. I cant get acronis or id use that. I dont know how to use clonezilla for my needs, ive seen tutorials talking about laptops, ive got a desktop.

Solution
Disconnect the failing drive
Install the new drive
Install Windows
Once everything is working...then see about connecting the old drive and retrieving data from it. The more you mess with a dying drive, the sooner it will actually die.
