Hey guys. About 4-5 months ago, my ~2 year old PC suddenly went off. No beeps no ctd no blue screen, just powered down. I was playing a demanding game and I thought it was the CPU overheating. So I reapplied some thermal paste, and turned it back on. Since then it kept going off in rather demanding games. I monitored the CPU temp and it went as high as 75 degrees Celsius with the stock cooler on my i5 2500k. Today it went off twice. First time in never winter online, second time in StarCraft 2. It hasn't started since the second shutdown. I unplugged and plugged back in, i switched the power supply's switch on an off, i kept pressing the power button, but no success. Now I fear the the power supply might be the cause. Can somebody give me a few hints? Is it the psu , is it something else? What should I replace? How to tell what exactly is the problem here?

Sorry if this is not the right category, I.m on my mobile phone posting this.

Specs from memory
Windows 8.1 (had same trouble on win 7. I don't think the is is the culprit here)
Cpu - I5 2500k
Motherboard - gigabyte Z68xp - ud3
Video - nvidia palit gtx 570
Power supply - corsair tx 650 v2
8 GB ram
2 HDD in raid black caviar I think

I had a similar problem with my c2d a while back, thinking the cpu got damaged i swopped it out (luckily i had a few spare lying around), but it got so bad that even trying to watch a video would switch of my pc. It ended up being the cpu power pin not seated properly and shorting out, which i only could see when i pulled it out and saw the barely visible black marks on the connector pins

Hmm, i'll take a look inside my pc and make sure all connectors are seated properly.

about 3 hours later, my pc started again, but it will probably go off if i try to play something demanding. I have an old 550W psu around here, and i'll try replacing my current one if it does it again. I hope 550W is enough for my specs.

[Edit] It seems it was indeed the psu that was causing these issues. With the old one in place, I haven't had a single shut down in the mean time
