IceQ 7950 & Cooler Master Elite 430 Cooling Issue

Hello All,

I have an IceQ 7950 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161420&Tpk=iceq%207950) inside a Cooler Master Elite 430 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119227). I have 3x 120mm case fans for cooling.

The issue is that there is very little space between the GPU's heat pipes and the side intake fan. I'm not sure if the side fan being so close to the pipes is causing more heat then cooling. You can see the airflow the the GPU's built in cooling system here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7950-review-benchmark,3207-2.html. It seems my side fan in blowing directly at the heat pipes, where the warm air from the GPU cooler is pushing the air to. I'm not sure if this is a problem or not. I do a lot of gaming and litecoin mining, so the GPU is always running much hotter then the rest of the machine.

Do you guys think it would be better to move my 3rd fan elsewhere? The other two fans are at the front bottom for intake, and bottom top for exhaust. I could move the side vent to the top for another exhaust, or just remove it all together. Any help would be great.

And yes, you are overthinking it slightly lol. Having an intake fan blow onto a gpu is always a good idea as all gpu fans are set to blow air down onto the card in order to push the heat either out of the case, or with an open card, it will blow the hot air into the case (this is still fine because most of the cards that do this cool the card well, but your internal case temps suffer a bit (so your cpu would be affected by a degree or two.
Your cpu temp will suffer only minimally if you can manage to exhaust that hot air properly. it's how it works, better gpu temps usually cause the cpu temp to suffer because of more heat radiating into the case, but the effect will not be at a level anywhere near problematic

Thanks for the quick replies, but part of the problem of my intake fan blowing where it does on the GPU that I forgot to mention was that it seems like it is pushing airflow away from the GPU's built in exhaust port in the back. So if the GPU's fan pushes up then out the back, the intake fan is taking that air moving to the back of the case and pushing it to the opposite side, away from the exhaust. Or am I just over thinking it?

You are correct, the it is an intake fan on the GPU. I was unclear on what I meant. What I was trying to say was that the side case intake fan may get in the way of the airflow that is going from the GPU to the back of the case, but pushing it from one side of the case to the other.

As long as it is okay having the side intake fan about a 1cm away from the heat pipes on the GPU, then I guess I should be fine. Thanks again for all the help.
